Timeline
The Building Excellent Schools Fellowship calendar is specifically designed to ensure that Fellows are able to complete the various tasks required to successfully design and open a high-performing urban charter school. Generally:
- Fellows make the Building Excellent Schools Fellowship their only professional commitment for an entire year in the program. The Fellowship currently runs on a September to August schedule. The 2011 Fellowship begins the first week of September 2011, and concludes the last week of August 2012.
- The 85 training days are organized into 7-10 rotations that last between five and 17 days each. The rotations and training days are “front-loaded” such that during the first four months, Fellows spend 75% of their time in Boston; during the second four months, Fellows spend 25% of their time in Boston; and during the final four months, Fellows work exclusively in their home territories on their charter school founding efforts.
- Fellows also complete a residency of 4 weeks during their time in the program. This residency may or may not occur in a Fellow’s home community.
